Today's topic is about Hydrogen Engine. You can understand what i mean after reading the title of the post. And a everyone feeling the same that hydrogen engine and hydrogen fuel cell are same. But they are not same. I will discuss the difference and how the hydrogen engine works.
First of all, we have to know about the energy source hydrogen. About this hydrogen fuel cell i already explained in our previous posts is about the concept car Hyperion. Do recall this post to knowhow hydrogen fuel cell works.
Hydrogen Engine
In present and for future also automotive industry are trying to develop their vehicle technology with in more efficient and environmental friendly way. For that hydrogen plays the best part for satisfying all of those requirements. In recent days i saw that Heavy Vehicle manufacturing company Ashoka Leyland launched two trucks which runs on hydrogen fuel where one is fuel cell truck another one is hydrogen engine truck. Actually this hydrogen engine is developed by "Over two hundred years ago in 1806, Swiss engineer François Isaac de Rivaz invented an internal combustion engine that used a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen as fuel." But for present only one company are manufacturing the hydrogen engines is Toyota. Since few years back this company started the tests for developing the hydrogen combustion engine. And now many companies are coming forward to increase there developments with hydrogen.
How this hydrogen engine works
This makes you interest guys. At first i was confused too, but this is interesting one. As we already know how I.C Engine works ( Internal Combustion Engine ). The same way the hydrogen engine also works but the coming to the fuel mixture is different. In hydrogen engine pure oxygen and hydrogen are using for the combustion. Well it also have the spark plug for ignition of the fuel mixture. And pure platinum is used in this engine which is very expensive. It acts as a catalyst for the reaction done efficiently. This is how actually hydrogen engine works, and fuel cell is for producing the electricity power to run the DC motor.
