Hi Guys. Welcome back to our blog ChandraAwsome. Todays topic is about the Cyclocopter Technology. Have you ever heard this. This is a different kind of propulsion approach for the flying vehicles. You can see of this prototype in the below picture. So, today we are going to know how it works and the behind science of it.
Actually this approach is already proposed by the previous engineers in the 1900's. But it was not successful due to some engineering defaults or lack of technology. But last year it was developed by the team of UMD ( University of Maryland). This is recognized as the team leader of the cyclocopter. For now it is still in development, only the prototype has been released into the society.
Lets learn about this, What is the matter about the CycloCopter.
This cyclocopter is a new era approach for the flying vehicles. As we already know about present propulsion systems like, Jet Engine or Gas Turbine that are using for Air Crafts, Helicopters and Ships. We already modeled about this how gas turbine works, if anyone of you want visit here. So these engines works on gases. But this cyclocopter works on the electricity because for reducing the weight of the copter. If you can observe again that it has horizontal propellers which means they rotates like the car wheels.
These each rotor having the propellers which are very important in this design. They can move in the guided direction which moves the copter in the particular direction. But how it is working means ( Our childhood example, when we have played with it is Spinning top. So as when we spin it, it will spin on it self for the force we applied. Here if you ever tried, when we place the hand near to it, we can feel that air is blowing out ). As like the same when the rotor is rotating the air is sucked into the gap of propellers and release the wind to the other direction. The direction of the wind suction is totally guided by the propellers of the rotor. This plays the crucial role is the cyclocopter.

The advantages of this copter is the direction turnings. As we can see the aircrafts take long curve path to take the turnings in the air. But with this copter it can take faster because of the horizontal propulsion system. It is totally works on electricity as mentioned before.
The present disadvantage of this copter is the weight. The rotors are heavy compared to the body , as we know it needs to spin in very high speed . So, if the design of the copter will give the optimal solution then, the Russian army is ready to use this copters in the defense system.
